Multisite network of WordPress implementation on domain mapping

WordPress Multisite is one of the best features of WordPress, allowing you to manage all of your sites from a single WordPress installation. Also, it features a domain mapping functionality that maps a domain to each subsite of a multisite. If this is the case, then a subdomainsubsite1.netdomain.com or subdirectorynetdomain.com/subsite1 might be translated to domaindomain.com. You will learn how to establish a Multisite network of WordPress mapping domains in this article.

What do you need for implementing domain mapping?
  • Installation of (Ubuntu 18.04 or Centos 7) New Linux Server
  • WordPress Multisite Network installed on your computer.
  • The WordPress Subsites already have domains linked to your DNS server.
How to create a subsite?

Step 1:
Go to the dashboard of your WordPress and of course it should be able to install multisite and click on "Create Subsite". Then go to my site and then choose network admin for choosing sites.

Step 2: Click on the Add New button to begin.

Enter the information following the below guidelines:
  • URL of the site: Subdirectory subsite name in our instance. Please note that you are not permitted to input reserved subdirectory names, such as wp-admin, wp-content, and so on. Assuming your installation has many subdomains that are named as such, provide the name of each one. Please note that www. as a subdomain is not allowed.
  • Title of the site: Enter the new subsite's title.
  • Email admin: Provide the email address of the subsite's administrator. If you're a hosting provider, enter the email address of your customer. Then click the Add Site button when you're done.
Domain to Subsite mapping:

Step 1:
Go to the Sites. However your cursor over the subsite you'd want to update and click on the Edit link.

Step 2: When prompted for a site address (URL), edit it and input the domain you want to map into your WordPress subsite. To use this domain, it must already be registered with your DNS servers.

Step 3: As soon as you have applied the new domain name, click Save Changes to start your website under the new domain.

So, you can see that a single WordPress installation may host several domain sites. There is no need to acquire several hosting accounts for each name, which saves you money and time. Also, as a super admin, you can manage all your WordPress sites from one location and with simplicity.
