How to use Cpanel for removing version number in WordPress?

You may hear about websites being hacked now and again. As you may be aware, WordPress powers 32% of all websites and is still growing. WordPress websites are increasingly being targeted by hackers. It's also a good idea to avoid leaving any vulnerability.

The majority of people are unaware that a hacker may access a website by looking at its WordPress version number. It's conceivable that a hacker might insert harmful code if you use an older version. Not everyone is active, and it's conceivable that they won't have a chance to upgrade WordPress right after it's released. As a result, it's critical to conceal the version number.

Many instructions are available online, however, most of them provide an imperfect solution that removes the WordPress version number from the header but not from RSS feeds.

Functions.php Edits:

It won't work if someone tells you to copy and paste a code into the header.php file. You must follow the legal procedure. As you may know, functions.php is the file that handles all of a WordPress website's WordPress functions. Do you know how to modify a file like this?

There are two methods: one is to use FTP, and the other is to use cPanel. Because some site hosting providers do not allow FTP access, I'll utilise the cPanel approach.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

Step 1:
Go to your cPanel account and find the file manager icon. You'll most likely find it under the Files area. Because each web hosting company offers a distinct cPanel layout, the design layout may vary. Blue is used by Bluehost, green by iPage, and so on.

Step 2: If a window appears asking you to select a directory to access, select either document root or public_html. Some businesses, on the other hand, open the home directory, from which you may access the public HTML link in the left-hand sidebar.

Step 3: The wp-content folder contains the site's plugins and themes, so open it.

Step 4: To see all active and inactive themes, go to the themes folder. Open the folder containing your active WordPress theme.

Step 5: Find the functions.php file by scrolling down a little. Select Edit from the context menu by right-clicking. You can also use the standard Edit option from the navigation menu. A confirmation box opens, and you must click the Edit button to proceed.

Step 6: A new tab appears in the web browser, displaying all of the codes found in the functions.php file. Copy the code and paste it into the document. Click the Save Changes button in the top-right corner. You won't find the WordPress version number in the source code of your site now.

The WordPress Version Number Can Be Removed With Ease

When individuals speak about WordPress being a dangerous platform, they forget to maintain a website safe.

There are several free tutorials available to assist WordPress users in strengthening the security of their websites. As you can see, concealing the WordPress version number is not a difficult task.

We hope you aren't afraid of modifying the functions.php file. However, before making any changes, we recommend that you make a backup of your site and database.
