Set up Email Notification for WordPress Post Changes: A Complete Guide

When the posts are changed by an author in WordPress, the system doesn’t send any notification to the owner or admin. This can be problem if you want to stay aware of all the developments associated with your blog or website. But you can change that. You can set up email notification for any post changes made on the WP website with a few simple steps. In this article, we explain the exact steps.

Use WP Activity Log Plugin
Plugins are the easiest way to do nearly everything in WordPress. And for this specific purpose, the best plugin is the WP Activity Log plugin. It is easy to use and flexible. But it’s also a paid tool.

To get started, install the WP Activity Log plugin from the plugin directory. Then create an account and get a paid account. Before exiting the page, grab the license key which you can find in your account section.

From here, follow these steps:
  • Go to the installed plugins page and activate WP Activity Log
  • Put in the license key when prompted
  • Complete the set up wizard by answering a few questions. However, you can do this later as well
  • Next, navigate to WP Activity Log > Notifications
  • Switch to Content Changes tab
  • Here, you need to select the events for which you want to receive notifications. Provide the email address next to each event and click on the tick
  • Lastly, click on Save Notifications at the bottom
Likewise, you can also set up SMS notifications so that you get notified on the phone. There are several services for it like Twilio. The WP Activity Log plugin supports SMS notifications.

Use Better Notification Plugin

There’s another plugin you can use to get notified. And that is Better Notifications for WP. It’s a free plugin and easy to use.

First, you need to install and activate the plugin. Then follow these steps to complete the procedure:
  • Open the Better Notifications for WP plugin
  • Go to Notifications > Add New
  • Here, complete the fields. First, provide a notification name in ‘Notifications for’ and then complete other fields like Send to, Subject, and Message
  • You can also use shortcodes by clicking on the ‘Find shortcodes’ button
  • Lastly, tap on ‘Save’ to save the notification you created
To check whether or not you’ve done everything correctly, use the ‘Send Me a Test Email’ button.

Please note that Better Notifications doesn’t monitor every change that take place in your WordPress website. So you need to create multiple notifications for each event by following the above procedure. There are no limits as to how many notifications you can create. Later, you can delete them if no longer necessary.

So that’s how you set up email notification for WordPress for post changes. In case you face any issues, update the plugins or contact the plugin owner for assistance.
