How to change or modify RDP Port Number 3389 - Remote Desktop Port

Remote Desktop Protocol:

Remote desktop protocol is a protocol that is used to provide communication between terminal server and terminal server client. It is encrypted into TCP.

With remote desktop you can remotely access the windows server by port number 3389. It is the default port. Port 3389 is the basic port of the remote desktop protocol that serves the all services of desktop for windows. With rdp you can remotely access the windows server. If you required more secure environment then you can change the remote desktop port. For remotely access the servers after changing the port then remember that your firewall is well configured.

Steps to modify rdp port number 3389:

For change the port for windows 2008, 2012, 2008 R2 follows the following instruction.

Step 1: first you connect the server with desktop remotely.

Step 2: click on the window logo and type +r for open the run dialog box and then executes the cmd command.

Step 3: write “regedit” command to open the editor of registry.

Step 4: found for the registry subkey in the search box. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber.

Step 5: by double click on the “portnumber” registry subkey and then check on the decimal base and write the own choice port number. Then select the “ok” button for save.

Step 6: you should be know that new port is authorized in window firewall by which you can access server remotely before going into next step.

Step 7: exit from editor of registry.

Step 8: then restart your server.
