How to Change Main Domain of a cPanel Reseller Account with an Existing Domain Name ?

Now days there is always need of changing the Main Domain Name associated with your Reseller account. By seeing all the process it is found that you can not do this even by screen scraping or API.

The Process For How to Change Main Domain of a cPanel Reseller Account with an Existing Domain Name -:

1. Use a modify account process to change main domain name on any existing account.

2. Change reseller ownership of all accounts under that reseller to the new user name you want.

3. Sort out the resellers name servers.

4. Switch all the reseller privileges to the new user you need.

OR

You can use a pretty simple process in which you should use an existing domain under that account as the new main domain and switch them while keeping the name servers the same as you want.

Process:

1. Copy all the reseller privilege to the new user.

2. Delete all the reseller privilege from the old one account and then finally change ownership of all the accounts to the new one.

The main problem which occurs in this process is that the cPanel doesn't know who the reseller owner of an account is. So if you delete a reseller as well as his accounts and then try to restore from available backups then the system only restores the main account content because it does not know what the other ones are.

The main thing why this problem occurs is the process by which the user names and passwords and DNS are managed. By using this process you can have longer user names, multiple accounts with the same user name provided the passwords were different, by having the unix user names held in a look up table.
